How GIQ rankings work

GIQ is designed to answer a harder question than “who scores the most points?” It tries to rank who is most valuable in a specific fantasy league, while keeping the underlying football evaluation consistent.

The ranking starts before league settings

The first layer is the player projection and profile. GIQ estimates expected fantasy output and surrounds it with a likely floor and ceiling. It also evaluates how believable that projection is through role, volume, efficiency, team environment, health and other position-specific signals. This matters because two players can have similar projected points while getting there through very different combinations of workload, efficiency and uncertainty.

The current framework tracks twelve broad categories: forward projection, sustainable projection, production/output, role/volume, role stability/security, efficiency, passing quality, rushing value, team environment, health/availability, age/timeline and draft-capital insulation. Those categories are not simply averaged. Their relevance changes by position and by league type.

The league is a translation layer

Once the football profile exists, GIQ translates it into the environment the user actually plays in. Reception scoring changes the value of catch volume. Passing-touchdown scoring changes quarterback output. League size changes replacement-level scarcity. Redraft, Dynasty and Keeper change the time horizon.

That is why GIQ stores 72 certified boards rather than one universal ranking with a handful of filters painted on top. Three league types × three reception settings × two passing-TD settings × four league sizes creates 72 distinct combinations. Across the 2026 player pool, those boards contain 35,952 ranking rows.

Redraft, Dynasty and Keeper are intentionally different

Redraft is primarily about the coming season. Dynasty values a longer asset horizon, so elite production durability and position-specific aging matter more while single-season positional scarcity matters less. Keeper sits closer to Redraft because a generic keeper list does not know each league's individual keeper cost. The point is not to make three dramatically different lists. It is to change only the parts of value that the league type actually changes.

Why GIQ does not score the market

ADP and consensus can be useful for draft strategy and for quality control, but feeding them directly into the rating would make an independent model partly circular. GIQ can compare itself with the market after the board is built. A large disagreement is treated as a research flag: check the projection, role, team context, health, age curve and positional treatment. If the model still supports the disagreement, the rank can stay.

Why floor and ceiling stay visible

A single projection hides the shape of uncertainty. The likely range gives users another way to understand the board. A player with a narrow range can be a different roster-building choice from a similarly ranked player with more ceiling and more downside. GIQ does not treat the endpoints as guarantees; they are decision context around the central projection.

Release QA is part of the product

GIQ's website data is generated from a certified ranking workbook. Before a release is used publicly, the pipeline checks board counts, rank sequences, player/profile synchronization and downstream data consistency. That is separate from football accuracy. QA cannot make a projection come true, but it can prevent stale or mismatched settings from quietly becoming a public ranking.

Method note: The examples on this page come from GIQ's own certified ranking dataset. Outside market rankings are not used to score these players.
